Email fraud/phishing
A rapidly growing form of internet email fraud is a practice known as phishing. Phishing refers to when perpetrators send fraudulent email messages requesting confidential information. The information then allows the perpetrator to gain access to the victim's accounts and steal the victim's identity.
At State Farm®, we place a high priority on helping our customers protect their private information. Once notified of phishing attempts or efraud, we work with the appropriate authorities to shut down fraudulent web sites.
Protecting yourself
If you receive an unsolicited email requesting personal information and it appears to be from State Farm, statefarm.com® or has the State Farm logo, do not respond.
Keep this in mind:
- State Farm will not send unsolicited email containing attachments or require customers to send personal information to us via email or pop-up windows.
- State Farm will send customers email notification when there is a message waiting for them in their secure online inbox.
State Farm encourages you to practice good security habits:
- Change your password regularly.
- Sign off the web site once you have completed a secure online session.
- When your computer is not in use, shut it down or disconnect it from the Internet.
- Only provide your ID and password when your browser indicates an encrypted connection. An encrypted connection is normally indicated by an https:// in your browser's address bar in front of the address of the page you are viewing.
