Prepare for day one

We’ve put together a little guide to help you through your first day. If you have any questions, please contact your recruiter. You’ve got this.

What to wear

We have a business casual approach. You’ll hear people call it "dress for your day." There’s no reason to overdo it with formal wear for Day One, but don’t undersell yourself with sweatpants and a hoodie either. Khakis are always a great option, as Jake, from State Farm, would tell you.

Don’t sweat the decision. Think about the impression you want to make and take it from there.

What to bring and things to review

You won’t need much, but a few essentials will keep your day running smoothly. Don’t leave home without:

  • Driver’s license/ID
  • Banking information (name and routing number) for Direct Deposit
  • Lunch/Lunch money
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Current, valid documents verifying your identity and work authorization as required for Form I-9. These must be original documents, not photocopies or pictures.
  • Review the Intellectual Property Agreement that will be required once you start.
  • Take a look at the Federal W-4 and State tax information, Form W-4 and Tax Worksheets. You’ll get instructions for submitting your tax withholdings information through the Employee Self-Service site on our intranet.

Where to go

Check out your welcome letter for specific instructions on where to report on your first day. You’ll go through the Security entrance until you get an employee badge.

What to expect

Day one is flooded with a unique mix of jumping into the job, introductions, and getting familiar with your surroundings. So, take it easy on yourself, absorb what you can, and rely on your manager and a team mentor until you get your bearings.

Your supervisor or trainer will guide you through your day and you'll be introduced to our online onboarding guide. This resource will help you build an understanding of your benefits and the Company throughout your first year here.

You will also access the COVID Safe Workplace training that you need to complete on your first day. Please note:

  • Face coverings and social distancing are recommended but optional in State Farm facilities regardless of vaccination status.
  • Face coverings are required in the following situations:
    • For a limited time after symptons, exposure or infection.
    • When state/local requirements are more restrictive.
  • You should not enter State Farm facilities:
    • If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms on your start date or in the 5 days prior to your state date:
      • You may enter a State Farm facility after 5 days since symptoms first appeared (or date of positive test if no symptoms), but you must wear a face covering until 10 days from symptom onset (or date of positive test if no symptoms)
    • If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days:
      • Remain out of the office until at least 5 days from symptom onset (or date of positive test if no symptoms) and you are fever-free for 24 hours without medication, and other symptoms are improving
      • Wear a face covering until 10 days from symptom onset (or positive test if no symptoms)
      • Individuals working in California: may return after 5 days if symptoms are improving and if they test negative on day 5. If they do not test, they may return after 10 days from symptom onset (or positive test if no symptoms).
